Sending students back to 1942 with a first-hand experience of the famous Kokoda Track campaign, at Monkeystack we collaborated with VR development studio Novus Res and the ABC’s Behind the News team to create Kokoda VR.
Combining highly detailed photogrammetrically created scenes with motion-captured animation, Kokoda VR allows players to pick up weapons, move through the battle fields, and personally witness the victories and failures from both sides of the conflict.
This project came to Monkeystack with significant time constraints. My contribution was to develop a universal character rig in Maya that supported both bespoke hand-keyed animation and an existing motion capture library.
